You have completed your physical therapy degree and are registered to practice in good standing in another jurisdiction and wish to participate in an approved exchange of employment for less than a year.

Application Checklist

You MUST submit the following documents to the College - DOWNLOAD by clicking on the link:


  • Application For Registration Form. Sign and date form and have someone witness your signature.
  • Criminal Records Review Act CONSENT Form AND $20.00 CAD fee. The fee can be in the form of a certified cheque or money order payable to the Minister of Finance, or you may complete the Pre-Authorized credit card form. Please submit both the form and fee to the College, and the College can forward them to the Ministry on your behalf.
  • Authorization for Release of Regulatory Information Form from each jurisdiction in which you have worked, if you are registered as a physical therapist in another jurisdiction currently or in the past. You must complete the top portion of the form and send directly to the appropriate regulatory organization(s) for completion. The College requires the original to be mailed directly from the regulatory organization(s).
  • Authorization for Release of Information for Confirmation of Employment Form from your current employer.
  • An up-to-date resume to the current month.
  • A letter of request from you which includes the name of the BC registered physical therapist and the name of the BC employer with whom you wish to do the exchange; and
  • A letter of confirmation from the BC registered physical therapist; and
  • A letter of confirmation from both your employer and the BC employer; and
  • Verification Request Form from The Canadian Alliance of Physiotherapy Regulators to confirm your degree has been successfully credentialed and you are eligible only to take the Canadian national examination, the PCE. You are not required to take the examination. You must complete Section 1 of the form (select “Educational Credential Assessment”) and send it directly to the Alliance for completion and return to the College. The Alliance will complete the other sections as you indicate under Section 1. A. The College requires the original to be mailed directly from the Alliance.
  • Proof of malpractice insurance of at least three million dollars ($3M CAD) per occurrence – valid in British Columbia. Further information can be received by contacting the Canadian Physiotherapy Association at 1-800-387-8679 or Hub International Sinclair Cockburn at 1-800-328-7887.
  • Supervision Plan Template, completed by the registered physical therapist supervising you and signed by both of you.
  • FEE: Cheques or money orders - payable to the College of Physical Therapists of BC in Canadian funds (CAD) drawn on a Canadian bank. The College does not accept direct transfer of funds or credit card payments.
