You have completed your physical therapy degree in an international program, and successfully completed your credentialing with the Canadian Alliance of Physiotherapy Regulators and have successfully completed the Physiotherapy Competency Examination.

Application Checklist

You MUST submit the following documents to the College - DOWNLOAD by clicking on the link:


  • Application For Registration Form. Sign and date form and have someone witness your signature.
  • Criminal Records Review Act CONSENT Form AND $20.00 CAD fee. The fee can be in the form of a certified cheque or money order payable to the Minister of Finance, or you may complete the Pre-Authorized credit card form. Please submit both the form and fee to the College, and the College can forward them to the Ministry on your behalf.
  • Verification Request Form from The Canadian Alliance of Physiotherapy Regulators. You must complete Section 1 of the form (select “Registration/Completion of Examination” and “Educational Credential Assessment” if applicable) and send it directly to the Alliance for completion and return to the College. The Alliance will complete the other sections as you indicate under Section 1. A. The College will accept a fax with the original to follow by mail from the Alliance.
  • Letter of confirmation from your insurer or a letter from the hospital or government agency/employer for malpractice insurance in the amount of at least three million dollars ($3M CAD) per occurrence. Further information can be received by contacting the Canadian Physiotherapy Association at 1-800-387-8679 or Phoenix Eastern at 1-877-883-5888.
  • A notarized copy of your graduation certificate. Notarized means that a lawyer or notary public certifies a true copy of your graduation certificate. Provide a letter from your university confirming that you have completed all the requirements to graduate if you are a new graduate and have not yet received your graduation certificate.
  • An up-to-date resume to the current month.
  • FEES: Cheques or money orders - payable to the College of Physical Therapists of BC in Canadian funds (CAD) drawn on a Canadian bank. The College does not accept direct transfer of funds or credit card payments.

If applicable, you must submit the following documents to the College - DOWNLOAD by clicking on the link:

  • Authorization for Release of Regulatory Information Form from each jurisdiction in which you have worked, if you are registered as a physical therapist in another jurisdiction currently or in the past. You must complete the top portion of the form and send directly to the appropriate regulatory organization(s) for completion. The College requires the original to be mailed directly from the regulatory organization(s).
  • Authorization for Release of Information for Confirmation of Employment Form from each workplace if you have worked as a physical therapist in the last five years. You must complete the top portion of the form and send directly to the appropriate employer(s) for completion. The College requires the original to be mailed directly from the employer(s). If you are unable to contact a previous employer, you may submit a previously obtained letter of reference or confirmation of employment.
  • Official proof of a name change (e.g. a marriage certificate), if you have changed your name since graduating.
  • Proof of English language proficiency, if you were educated in a language other than English. Please provide a copy of one of the following test result OR select “Language Testing” on Section 1 of the Verification Request Form from the Alliance if your English language proficiency has been verified by the Alliance:


  • (a) Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) score of at least 585 on the paper-based testing, or 239 on the computer-based testing,or 80 on the Internet-based testing with at least 50 on each of the three components of the paper-based TOEFL, plus a score on the Test of Spoken English (TSE) of at least 45; or with at least 16 on the Listening score, at least 18 on the Structure/Writing score and at least 17 on the Reading score on the computer-based TOEFL, plus a score on the Test of Spoken English (TSE) of at least 45; or at least 20 on the Listening score, at least 19 on the Writing score, at least 20 on the Reading score and at least 19 on the speaking score on the Internet-based TOEFL; or

    (b) a total score on the Michigan English Language Assessment Battery (MELAB) test of at least 85, plus an oral interview rating of at least 3; or

    (c) an average score on the Canadian Test of English for Scholars and Trainees (CANTEST) of at least 4, with no component lower than 4, with a minimum oral interview rating of 4.5; or

    (d) a score of at least 7 on the Academic International English Language Testing System (IELTS) and the test must include all components (Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking); or

    (e) a total score of 800 on the Listening and Reading components with a score of at least 160 on the Writing Test and at least 160 on the Speaking Test Test of English for International Communication (TOEIC).
